ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has appealed to the State Bank of Pakistan for a letter of credit to fund the implementation of an Automatic Fare Collecting and Intelligent Transport System for the city’s Metro Bus Service.
The Orange Line service, inaugurated by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, initially ran for free but has since introduced paid fares collected manually.
CDA had previously hired a contractor to implement the required systems. However, the current economic crisis has hindered the import of necessary equipment.
In a letter to the deputy governor of the State Bank, CDA member engineering Syed Munawar Shah highlighted the financial losses and public complaints caused by the lack of these systems and requested support for the required approvals.
The Prime Minister’s office closely monitors the Orange Line project, connecting various Islamabad areas to the city’s international airport.
