CDA’s Nilore Height Project for Overseas Pakistanis Faces Setback Due to Pending Litigation

ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority’s (CDA) housing project, Nilore Height, which aims to provide apartments to overseas Pakistanis, has encountered a setback due to pending litigation.

This has raised doubts about the balloting process, which was scheduled to take place on May 16th. Despite receiving 6,000 applications for the 2,000 apartments available in the first phase of the project, legal complications have caused delays.

Initially, the CDA launched the project in collaboration with the Naya Pakistan Housing and Development Authority (NPHDA) for the working class.

However, the CDA later decided to take over the entire project, naming it ‘Nilore Height’ and claiming that it was built with its own funds and on its land.

As a result, individuals who received allotment from NPHDA against flats filed a petition before the Islamabad High Court, questioning the proposed sale of apartments to overseas Pakistanis.

In response, the CDA’s law wing has been directed to prepare a comprehensive reply to contest the cases filed against the project.

Despite maintaining its earlier decision to conduct balloting on May 16th, sources suggest that the process will likely be postponed until after the cases are disposed of.

The CDA launched the project at the behest of the federal government, which aimed to facilitate expatriates and boost foreign exchange reserves.

Each two-bedroom apartment is being sold for $30,000, and the CDA is planning to launch two additional housing schemes for overseas Pakistanis, including around 100 plots in Sector C-14 and 700 plots in C-16.

Additionally, special facilitation desks have been established to aid overseas Pakistanis in the application process.

The CDA is also considering launching high-end apartment projects in Sector C-13 along Margalla Avenue, with a final decision expected later this month.
