Chairman RDA Forms Committe to Discuss Enhancing Water Storage Capacity in Rawal Dam

RAWALPINDI: A committee has been established to consider improving Rawal Dam’s water storage capacity during a meeting on Wednesday that was presided over by Tariq Mehmood Murtaza, chairman of the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA).

The meeting was attended by Muhammad Tanvir, Managing Director (MD) of the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), Nahim Ashraf, Chief Engineer of the Potohar Irrigation Department, Mehar Manzoor, Project Director for Small Dams, and Salim Ashraf, Deputy Managing Director of WASA.

As per the details, the meeting’s attendees decided that the Rawal Dam’s water storage capacity should be increased to fulfill the needs of Rawalpindi’s residents.

Additionally, many possibilities for boosting Rawal Dam’s water storage capacity were discussed while a technical committee made up of officers from irrigation departments and WASA officers was formed.

Speaking at the event, Chairman RDA Tariq Mehmood Murtaza stated that the project to increase Rawal Dam’s water storage capacity was crucial for the future to meet water needs.

He also said that since groundwater levels had fallen, reliance must be put on dams, adding that WASA was working on a plan to provide more affordable water to Rawalpindi inhabitants.
