Chinese Firm Offers Low-Cost Pre-Fabricated Houses for Flood Affectees

LAHORE: Chinese businessmen have offered to build pre-fabricated houses in their present Faisalabad plant as a means of aiding Pakistan’s flood victims.

At a press conference, the country head of Hanan DR Group, Mr. Zhang, stated, “As a matter of urgency, we are concentrating on aiding the flood victims by constructing modest homes for about Rs1.8 million at no profit.”

He claimed that a single unit actually costs between Rs2.6 and Rs2.8 million.

The management decided against making any money off of this venture, although they did request that Pakistan’s government exclude the imported raw materials from all taxes and charges.

According to the country head, 200 houses could be built each month, and over 2,000 in a year. Each house would be earthquake-resistant and soundproof, with two rooms, a kitchen, and a toilet.

“These houses will be built on a single story with a covered area of approximately 550sqft each and will be fire resistant with a 50-year structural guarantee,” he added.

In addition to clean drinking water and other amenities, he claimed, solar panels will also be used to generate electricity.

It is to note here that the company had made a $150 million investment a few years ago in an industrial estate at Faisalabad’s free-zone M3IC.
