CM Punjab Approves District Status of Taunsa

LAHORE: On Wednesday, amid heightened political tension in the provincial capital and concern about his leadership, Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi granted Taunsa the status of a district and approved the Lahore Master Plan 2050.

He sent out a notice designating Taunsa Sharif as the district with 3 tehsils – Wahova, Taunsa, and Koh-e-Suleman – with 362 union councils that make up the new district.

The chief minister emphasized that he wished to create Taunsa as a district in 2005 and had done so.

He added that people in Taunsa would experience a new phase of growth after achieving district status and all of their problems would be handled right outside their door with access to jobs at their homes.

Elahi handed over the notification of the decision to Muhammad Khan Leghari and Khawaja Sherazul Mahmood, adding that it was unprecedented for a chief executive to approve 1 division and 5 districts in just 5 months of being in power.

Besides, the Lahore Master Plan 2050 was also approved in a meeting of the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Governing Body, which was presided over by Pervaiz Elahi as he added that the master plan would provide a sustainable approach to preserve an urban-rural balance in the province.
