Commissioner Irked Over Slow Pace of Land Record Digitization

RAWALPINDI: Commissioner Rawalpindi, Saqib Manan, has set a deadline of December 31 for the completion of the land record digitization after witnessing the poor progress being made on this matter in all 6 districts of the Rawalpindi division.

As per the details, only 84% of the mouzas (villages) in the Rawalpindi district have had their records digitized thus far, whereas Talagang is at the top of the list with 96.84 percent.

Similarly, Chakwal stands at 91.38%, and Jhelum at 91% while district Attock’s 421 out of 455 manual mouza records have been converted to digital format.

Furthermore, there are 95 mouzas in Talagang, of which 92 have computerized records, compared to Rawalpindi which has 1,183 mouzas and only 998 of them are computerized.

The district of Rawalpindi also falls behind in the digitalization of Girdawari (crop inspection record). Girdawari record digitization has been completed 100% in Attock and Jhelum, 94 percent in Chakwal, and 87.5 percent in Talagang.

According to a senior district administration official, the rate of digitization was slow since most of the mouzas where housing societies were being built were not computerized.

He said that because Murree and Kotli Sattian had been cut off from the district, the percentage of records in Rawalpindi that were computerized would further decline.

According to sources, the commissioner had urged the revenue staff to complete the task at the earliest and ordered the deputy commissioners to hold public hearings on cases twice a week to speed up the process.

According to the officials, 2,384 out of 2,655 manual records for mouzas have been digitized so far. It’s also been highlighted that there was a staffing shortage since the division had over 100 open patwari positions.
