Convention Centre Attacked During Elections of Islamabad Estate Agent Association

ISLAMABAD: On Thursday, supporters of opposing factions clashed and caused damage to the Convention Centre Islamabad building during elections for the Islamabad Estate Agent Associations.

According to the sources, the glass of the center’s entry gate was broken during the altercation.

Speaking to the media, CDA Member Engineering Syed Munawar Shah said that CDA had directed the person who got the center booked for elections to make repairs immediately.

The member added, “Those who broke the glass will fix it. If not, we have two more options: one, we can take away their security deposit, and second, we can file a first information report (FIR) against those responsible.”

The details showed that elections were being held between the founding group, led by Sardar Tahir, and the progressive group, led by Atif Jamil Butt where a police officer also reportedly suffered injuries after being struck by a piece of broken glass.

Later, the Butt Organization staged a news conference at the National Press Club where they claimed that the opposing group had polled fake ballots. However, voting was resumed, and the results were not made public until this report was filed.

The Butt Group allegedly attempted to delay the election process out of fear of losing, according to the Sardar Tahir Group’s supporters.

According to a real estate agent, there were 3,200 registered voters, and 400 of them were not eligible to cast ballots at the polls since their membership renewals had expired.
