Estates Office Vacates Over 2817 Properties from Illegal Occupants

ISLAMABAD: The Estate Office and the Ministry of Housing and Works have vacated over 2,817 government properties from illegal occupants and handed them over to legitimate owners across the country.

“The Capital Development Authority and other relevant provincial government departments have assisted the Estate Office in vacating government properties,” says the Ministry of Housing and Works.

Sources claimed that the Ministry was also discussing taking legal action against encroachments and illegally built structures in federal government residences.

They also added that the employees and their family members, who resided in the government-allotted homes, would face punishment for constructing extra spaces.

According to the details, the Estate Office is currently in charge of managing over 17,000 government homes in Islamabad, and the allottees in over 2,400 homes have built additional rooms without permission.

They added that even though there were over 25,000 government workers on the general waiting list for housing, they could not receive the same accommodations as retired workers who continue to live in government housing with their relatives and even those of deceased workers.

Responding to a question, the spokesperson stated that government employees are gauged based on merit and by the relaxation of rules under Rule 29A of the Accommodation Allocation Rules, 2002, except in cases of hardship.
