Germany to Fund €28Mn for Socio-Economic Uplift and Sustainable Development

ISLAMABAD: The government of Pakistan and Germany have signed two framework agreements worth a total of €28 million to support socioeconomic uplift and sustainable development in Pakistan.

The agreements were signed by German Ambassador to Pakistan Alfred Grannas and Dr. Kazim Niaz, Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

The agreements focus on the energy and governance sectors and will be financed by a grant of €23 million through GIZ.

Three projects will be financed under the Technical Cooperation Agreement 2021: Participatory Local Governance, Building Transition to Promote Energy Efficiency in Buildings, and Strengthening Climate Adaptation and Resilience.

Additionally, a Financial Cooperation Agreement 2020 worth a grant of €5 million will be used to support the Self-Employment for Women in the Health Sector project.

The funding provided by Germany will improve specific sectors and result in socio-economic uplift, job creation for beneficiaries, and sustainable development in Pakistan.
