Govt to Establish Special Courts for Overseas Pakistanis

ISLAMABAD: A bill has been prepared by the government to set up special courts in Islamabad for swift resolution of property possession related issues of overseas Pakistanis and their cases pending in other courts.

The bill will enable overseas Pakistanis to make petitions in these courts through e-filing. Judges in these special courts will be appointed for 3 years and will be bound to make decisions on the pending cases within 60 days.

There will also be a video link facility for gathering evidence and recording statement. Furthermore, if overseas Pakistanis have cases in any other courts, they will also be transferred to the special courts.

A meeting was also held at Lahore to discuss ordinance and rules & regulations at OPC Office. Judge Lahore High Court, Justice Jawad Hussain, also directed the Lahore High Court to prepare an ordinance for the establishment of special courts for overseas Pakistanis.

In a press conference, he said that, “We [cabinet] have given approval for a separate judicial system for overseas Pakistanis, continuing our tradition to think about and work for their benefit.”

The minister showed his concern for the overseas Pakistanis who are unable to stay in the country for too long and therefore this system should be developed for them.
