IHC Postpones Hearing on Dual Appointment of Chairman CDA

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court postponed a hearing on a petition challenging the appointment of the same officer as chief commissioner of the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) and chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) until January 30th.

While hearing the petition, Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb commented that it had become a common practice to appoint one person to hold multiple positions and that this would make it difficult for the chief commissioner to perform his duties effectively.

The petitioner, Riaz Hanif Rahi, also stated that there were reports of plans to transfer the current chief commissioner and appoint another person to both positions.

The Assistant Attorney General requested the court to postpone the hearing as the Additional Attorney General was occupied in another court, and the hearing was rescheduled for a later date.
