ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced its decision to take strict legal action against water wastage as part of a conservation plan to ensure judicious use of this resource during the upcoming summer season.
The city managers have noted that Islamabad usually faces a shortage of water when some people engage in wasteful activities, such as washing their cars and allowing water to overflow into the streets.
Although existing laws permit the civic agency to impose a maximum fine of Rs 5,000 on those found wasting water, this punishment has failed to yield satisfactory results in the past.
Residents of posh sectors easily pay the fine and continue to waste water, leading to shortages of this vital resource. To combat this issue, the civic agency plans to increase the fine to Rs 25,000 for repeat offenders.
Special teams will be formed to issue notices to those involved in the wastage of water.
The challans of repeat offenders will be sent to the CDA magistrate for further necessary action.
Additionally, a government official has urged the residents of the city to comply with the CDA Municipal bylaws and avoid wasting clean drinking water.
He also shared that the city managers had the authority to increase the fine for repeat offenders who ignore the warnings and continue to waste water.
Furthermore, the conservation plan aims to prevent water shortages in the city and promote sustainable use of this vital resource.
By complying with the bylaws and adopting water conservation practices, residents can play their part in ensuring the sustainable use of water in Islamabad.

I am, unfortunately, residing in Sector I-8 since the year 2000 and have been witnessing number of residents washing their cars & porches and allowing water to overflow into the street/road for the last 23 years.
Either the CDA personnel are blind or turn a blind eye or simply indifferent & lethargic as it’s not them but common citizens who have to bear the brunt of the water shortage.
You are right brother these peoples are un questionable

I have complained multiple times that the CDA water tankers waste gallons of water themselves, but no one paid heed.
We need a revolution to get rid of this useless system, these dirty politicians and the unfaithful chowkidaars of this country
Hopefully this fine is for all weather they are in uniform or in bloody civilions area… Start with E….
