Karachi Authorities Launch Encroachment Drives in Schools

KARACHI: Upon the orders of the Sindh High Court, the South and Korangi districts have launched anti-encroachment operations in schools where illegal shops and rooms have been constructed.

According to the details, the District Education Officer (DEO) South, Kamal Kumar, has sent a letter to the deputy commissioner south stating that action should be taken against encroachers as per the court orders.

The letter also read that the encroachments from the school’s premises and boundary walls should also be freed from the land mafia.

The DEO shared that the court had issued several notices in the past ten years, yet action still needed to be taken. But this time, a committee was formed under the supervision of district and Session judges.

The committee also has several officials from the South District, including DC, SP, Director of Schools (Secondary, Primary), Regional Director of Colleges, Regional Head of Sindh Educational Foundation Karachi, and President of Karachi Bar Association.

The DEO also added that shops were constructed along the school’s boundary wall, and a number of rooms have been constructed in some schools.

He said that once the authorities vacate them, more classrooms will be constructed as the number of students gradually increases.

He also shared that playgrounds and green areas will be developed for children’s physical activities.

Meanwhile, according to DEO Korangi Abdul Latif Mughal’s letter to the Civil Judge District East, Shah Faisal and Model Town assistant commissioners were able to clear out a few schools from the land grabbers.

He disclosed, that 19 schools in the district were being used unlawfully, and letters had been sent to the encroachers to vacate the schools.
