KARACHI: The Karachi Development Authority Director General, Syed Mohammad Ali Shah, has declared a rain emergency in the city’s townships and schemes.
In response, the Chief Engineer, Nadeem Iqbal, called a meeting of senior officers to review the situation and ensure timely measures are taken to deal with emergencies.
KDA officers’ leaves have been canceled, and all engineers have been instructed to closely monitor the situation in their respective schemes.
They must also ensure the timely cleaning and unclogging of blocked drains. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted the possibility of rain and thundershowers in Karachi, with some locations experiencing severe downpours.
KDA officers must be prepared to deal with any situation using machinery and manpower. Encroachments around the drains must be removed, and liaison between all concerned officers must be strengthened.
It was shared that Karachi might receive 30 to 50 mm of rain during this system, and some parts might witness hailstorms if thunderclouds develop.
