KARACHI: The Karachi Development Authority (KDA) has announced a joint operation against land grabbers and encroachers, including those who have illegally established nurseries and structures on public land.
As per the details, the crackdown will be carried out by 2 departments: Parks, and Sports & Recreation – under the directive of the KDA Director-General.
The operation will target dozens of nurseries located in Gulistane-Johar, Scheme 33, and Gulshan Iqbal, which owe tens of millions of rupees to the KDA.
Moreover, final notices are also being issued to defaulting nursery owners, and those who fail to make immediate payments will be asked to vacate the land.
The sources confirmed that many of these nurseries were set up on service roads, parks, and other public grounds without the KDA’s approval and with the support of influential individuals.
To ensure that all departments meet their recovery targets, KDA Finance Member Kashif Khan has been tasked with overseeing the recovery process.
In a meeting held 2 days ago, Parks Director Haji Shakeel Khan and Sports Director Muhammad Jameel directed their departments’ staff to prepare a list of illegal nurseries and other encroachments.
Besides, the Parks department’s additional director, Muhammad Arif, has been appointed as the focal person in this regard.
