KP Standing Committee on Environment Stresses Protection of Forest

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Standing Committee on Environment Department gave strict instructions to develop and safeguard forest regions to lessen the impacts of climate change.

As per the details, members of the committee, including MPAs Muhammad Khan, Muhammad Shafiq Afridi, Mirkalam Khan, Sajida Hanif, Madiha Nisar, and Sumi Falknaz, and other officials from the Departments of Environment, Forests and Wildlife, Finance, Law, and Assembly, attended the committee meeting.

The meeting came to the consensus that the current state of climate change was worrisome, and significant effort would be required to address it.

During the discussion, recommendations were offered to foster the expansion of wildlife and address personnel issues.

The committee members complained that they had been uninformed regarding the hiring of class-IV officials, conferences, seminars, plantation campaigns, and other important events.

Besides, the meeting recommended the issuance of local permits for the lawful use of wood as well as measures to stop illicit hunting and forest cutting.

Furthermore, it was also decided that a visit to Bannu, DI Khan Sheikh Badin, and North Waziristan would be made to review the development and protection of the forests, environment, and wildlife.

Additionally, the assembly members were also given information about the billion tree project, the professional allowance, and the risk alliance for forest department employees.

The committee’s chairman expressed appreciation for the government’s initiatives of the Billion Tree Project, Pollution Prevention, and Climate Change Policy 2022–2023.
