LAHORE: On Thursday, Lahore High Court (LHC) extended the stay order on Lahore Master Plan 2050 and allowed the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) to continue with the 2016 plan.
The decision came after the LDA lawyer requested the extension during a plea filed by a citizen named Mian Abdur Rehman against the master plan.
During the hearing, the LDA lawyer mentioned that they had no objections if international experts were consulted to review the 2050 plan, and that the governing body was bound to approve them as per the rules.
He further stated that members of the Punjab Assembly were also part of the governing body.
Justice Shahid Karim extended the stay order and also ordered the government to avail the services of international experts to review the Master Plan 2050.
Mian Abdur Rehman had filed a plea against the master plan, stating that it would convert the agricultural area of the city into an urban area without justification.
He also argued that the project would lead to the cutting down of thousands of trees, which could harm the country vulnerable to climate change.
Besides, he also pleaded with the court to set the plan aside, citing malicious intentions.
