LAHORE: The Additional DG of Housing, Capt. (retd) Shahmir Iqbal, chaired a crucial meeting of the Lahore Development Authority’s (LDA) committee dedicated to enhancing the living environment in the provincial capital.
The meeting, convened on the direction of Commissioner Lahore and LDA DG, primarily focused on the removal of encroachments on nine model highways.
During the meeting, it was revealed that special initiatives were underway to promote cycling culture in the city.
As part of the first phase, a dedicated cycling lane will be established on model highways.
Moreover, DG Housing emphasized that strict instructions have been issued to the parking company to curb illegal parking and overcharging on model highways.
To ensure compliance with building and zoning regulations, commercial properties such as restaurants and large stores on model highways will be obligated to allocate adequate space for parking.

Nice step. It will promote cycling culture which has health benefits in it and it’s environment friendly.
Good step to encourage cycling. Please make some cycle tracks in urban Lahore also. On main roads like jail Road, gulberg Road, Mall Road etc.
All new societies should be directed to design cycle tracks.
This is a good step to be taken by the DG LDA for making separate cycling lanes on main roads this will save the cyclist from accidents provided they observe this facility and they have to be trained also.

Its good to listen that the metropolitan city will promote cycling in Lahore. This will help reduce carbon emissions and cycling is a healthy activity that we need. We need to promote sustainable and eco-friendly projects.
