LAHORE: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has made the approval to spend Rs. 150 million on 37 brand-new vehicles, authorizing a working document for the acquisition during its 5th meeting.
The details show that the vehicle fleet would consist of 10 cars up to 1,000 CC, 20 cars up to 1,300 CC, and 7 cars up to 1,600 CC.
In the approved budget for the fiscal year 2022–2023, the approval of the immediate purchase of the vehicles was permitted against a budget allocation of Rs. 150 million.
The issued working document added that efficient mobility was a fundamental requirement for the quick processing of client applications, resolving public grievances, implementing the master plan, removing encroachments, effectively controlling building and land use, taking action against illegal housing schemes, and better resource generation.
The LDA’s fleet only had 152 vehicles available, and there was a shortage of 290 vehicles, according to the working paper, “despite having a right to it, many officers working in BS-18 and above were denied such facility due to lack of vehicles.”
LDA also claims that the vehicles for officials and the LDA police contingents were in short supply while protocol vehicles for foreign delegations were also unavailable.
The working paper further stated that the lack of vehicles has hampered police mobility, enforcing the authority’s writ, and regulating illicit commercialization and encroachment.
