LHC Expresses Concerns Over Lahore Master Plan 2050

LAHORE: Justice Shahid Karim of the Lahore High Court expressed his worry over the Lahore Master Plan 2050 on Thursday, stating that agricultural land’s future has been jeopardized.

He commented that after hearing multiple petitions from farmers against the Ravi Urban Development Authority’s (RUDA) alleged forcible purchase of property and sale of that land.

The judge added that the court would see whether the government had sought the opinion of international town planners before finalizing the master plan for Lahore.

Additionally, the court also stated that pollution had reached a dangerous level and that nobody cared here, noting that the world chose vertical elevation structures over horizontal growth of cities on the ground.

According to the sources, the petitioners claimed that RUDA had forcibly acquired their estates and begun selling them to new bidders.

They claimed that the Supreme Court had stopped RUDA from taking the farmers’ lands by force while the respondents had disobeyed the ruling of the supreme court and had kept up their illegal behavior.

They pleaded with the court to halt RUDA’s acquisition and sale of their lands, to which, the court ordered a response from the impacted quarters.
