Mayor Karachi Urges Drain Cleaning Ahead of Rainy Season

KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab has urged the authorities to prioritize drain cleaning in preparation for the upcoming rainy season.

During his inspection of various drains, including the post office drain in the Central District, he emphasized the removal of large stones and blocks from rain drains.

The mayor called upon citizens to support the institutions in this effort and refrain from dumping construction materials into rain drains during ongoing construction work.

He directed all departments of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) to mobilize and actively contribute to the cleaning process.

Mayor also highlighted that the ongoing cleaning of stormwater drains is taking place at over 50 locations across the city daily.

He stressed the importance of continuing this process to ensure effective drainage of rainwater, even during heavy rainfall.

Additionally, the mayor instructed the town Municipal Corporations to expedite the cleaning of small drains in their respective areas and keep their staff active during the monsoon season to divert rainwater through these smaller drains into the larger ones.

Mayor Karachi expressed his appreciation for the vision, goodwill, and dedication of the party leadership in carrying out development works while ordering continuous monitoring of development works to ensure their sustainability and long-term benefits for the citizens.
