MCCI Proposes Private Special Economic Zone for Multan

MULTAN: The Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) has called upon the government to establish 2 additional industrial estates, including one dedicated to small and medium-sized industries, as well as a special economic zone.

As per the details, the objective is to stimulate industrial activity in the agricultural-industrial hub of South Punjab.

In a meeting of MCCI’s sub-committee on industry, environment, and energy, chaired by MCCI President Mian Rashid Iqbal, it was announced that a study would be conducted to explore the feasibility of developing a private special economic zone.

He stated that a consultation process with members will commence to determine the potential for such a zone.

During the meeting, there was a unanimous demand for the establishment of a one-window facilitation center to assist industrialists and traders, particularly those initiating new ventures.

Mian also emphasized the importance of having officials from various departments, including industries, commerce, investment, skills development, and others, available at the center.

This comprehensive setup would address all business community issues under one roof, encompassing processes such as obtaining No Objection Certificates (NOCs), certifications, documentation, fee submissions, and legal facilities.

Besides, he suggested allocating a minimum of fifteen days for the issuance of NOCs, certificates, or objections.

Furthermore, the Punjab Trade and Investment Board (PITB) was identified as a potential ally in promoting business and industrial activities.

Recognizing Multan’s significant contribution to the national economy through agriculture and existing industrial operations, Mian also highlighted the potential for further industrial estate development.

He announced that MCCI would soon convene a meeting with its members and potential investors to explore the establishment of a private special economic zone in Multan.
