Minister Assures Resolution of Multan’s Sewerage Issues

MULTAN: Senior Minister Punjab, Mian Aslam Iqbal, stated on Wednesday that the city’s sewerage issues would be resolved soon.

The minister made these remarks during a joint press conference with Punjab Chief Minister’s advisor for information, Omar Sarfraz Cheema at Circuit House.

He stated that the sewerage system of Multan would be repaired on a priority basis and that problems of WASA Multan would be resolved.

The minister stated that Japan would provide WASA with cutting-edge machinery and other equipment worth Rs. 1.5 billion as part of a Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) project.

He directed that an online mechanism would be developed for public complaints regarding sewerage, and that any SDO of the subdivision who did not respond to citizen complaints about sewer and water supply would be fired.

Ex-Foreign Minister, Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi, stated that sewerage was the city’s most serious problem, and that the population had grown fivefold in a few years.

WASA services have expanded to 82 union councils from 68, and there is a capacity shortage at WASA, according to Qureshi.

The senior minister promised that all necessary funds would be made available for the city’s sewage projects, and that he would visit the city by next week to review the progress on said issues.
