Minister Fazl Elahi Assesses Progress of Warsak Canal Remodeling Project

PESHAWAR: Caretaker Minister for Irrigation, Haji Fazl Elahi, has expressed that the completion of the Remodeling of Warsak Canal project will significantly increase the water flow by 700 cusecs, benefiting agriculture in the region.

During his visits to ongoing projects of the Irrigation Department in the Khyber and Mohmand districts, the minister emphasized the vital role of dams in agricultural development.

One of the key areas to benefit from the project is the Warsak Canal, which irrigates vast portions of the Peshawar and Nowshera districts. The minister inspected the pump house of the canal in Jamrud, examining its various components and inquiring about their functions.

The Project Director for the Remodeling of the Warsak Canal System, Roohul Mohsin, informed us that there are a total of five pumps, with four currently in use and one on standby.

The minister also assessed the progress of the tunnel construction in the Mulagori area, a part of the Remodeling of Warsak Canal Project, being carried out by a Chinese company.

Officials from the Chinese company briefed the minister on the tunnel’s construction, highlighting its significance in irrigating a wide area from the river Kabul.

The tunnel spans a length of 5.4 km and construction began in March of this year, with a projected completion date of February 2027.

Furthermore, the minister visited Warsak Dam, where officials provided him with detailed insights into various sections.

He closely examined the canals originating from the dam and issued necessary instructions to the relevant authorities.
