NA Committee Directs CDA to Compensate Family of Man Killed During Anti-Encroachment Drive

ISLAMABAD: The Standing Committee on Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety of the National Assembly has instructed the Director General of Enforcement at the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to provide compensation to the late Rehri Baan Abdullah’s family.

As per the details, the handcart pusher died during an anti-encroachment operation carried out by the CDA in Sector I-10 Markaz Islamabad a few days ago.

The committee expressed its condolences and directed the CDA to immediately extend financial assistance to the family of the deceased and submit a report on the matter.

During the meeting, which was chaired by Saira Bano, the committee expressed deep sadness over Abdullah’s death, who sold fruits, vegetables, and other goods to make ends meet.

The committee also noted that Abdullah was a licensee under the Rehri Baan Scheme launched in various sectors of Islamabad.

However, due to reports of illegal occupation of footpaths and parking areas by Rehri Baans, the operation was carried out.

In light of this, the committee expressed displeasure to the DG (Enforcement) and directed the CDA to provide financial assistance to the poor Rehri Baan’s family and submit a report in the next meeting.
