NAB Chief Distributes Cheques to Fraud Victims of Askari Housing Scheme and Others

ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has returned a total of Rs. 27 million to victims of five different frauds.

NAB chief retired Lt Gen Nazir Ahmed Butt distributed the cheques to the affected individuals during a ceremony held on Monday.

According to NAB, the bureau has successfully recovered over Rs. 3.5 billion, including Rs. 130 million from the Sindh Tractors Scheme, Rs. 500 million from the Askari Housing scam, Rs. 1.9 billion from the National House Building Development Corporation scam, and other amounts.

During his address, Mr. Butt reiterated that the bureau would remain apolitical and operate within its constitutional boundaries.

This statement comes ahead of PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s appearance before an Anti-Terrorism Court in Islamabad.

In his first public appearance since March, the NAB chief instructed officers to treat the accused with dignity and respect, emphasizing that all accused individuals deserve courtesy and civility.

Butt, who assumed office in March, sought to dispel any perception that the organization was being used to intimidate political opponents, stating that NAB had faced unnecessary controversies in the past, leading to a loss of focus and damage to its reputation.

Later, addressing NAB Rawalpindi employees, Butt commended their performance, which resulted in significant recoveries.

The NAB chief also acknowledged the patience of the affected individuals and assured them that every effort would be made to conclude such cases promptly in the future.
