KARACHI: The Directorate Town Planning Sindh Master Plan Authority had sent notices to the developers of 313 illegal residential schemes in the province.
The list of these unauthorized housing projects has already been advertised by the authority. These illegal housing schemes are spread across 28 districts and 37 tehsils of the province.
According to the authority, Hyderabad Districts have 20 such projects, while Naushahro Feroze has 74, Mirpur Khas has 23, Matiari has 18, Sukkur has 14, Khairpur has 19, Nawabshah has 24, and Larkana has 11.
Some of the schemes that have been declared illegal are listed in the list released by the Sindh Building Control Authority, Karachi.
To prevent citizens from becoming victims of fraud, the Directorate Town Planning Sindh Master Plan Authority has urged the public to consult the list of unauthorized schemes before purchasing plots or houses.
The crackdown on illegal housing schemes is part of the government’s efforts to regulate the housing sector and ensure that developers operate within the legal framework.
The action taken by the authority is expected to lead to the development of safer and more secure housing schemes in the province.

Sindh, one of the four provinces of Pakistan, has been grappling with the menace of illegal societies for quite some time now. They take advantage of the increasing population and the scarcity of affordable housing in the cities, especially Karachi, and sell plots or apartments to unsuspecting buyers at exorbitant prices.
The problem with these societies is that they do not have any legal status, and the land they are built on is usually agricultural land or government property. They do not have any approval from the government, nor do they follow any building codes or safety regulations. As a result, the buildings in these societies are usually unsafe, with no proper sewage or drainage system, and the roads are poorly constructed.
Moreover, these societies do not pay any taxes to the government, which leads to a loss of revenue for the government. They also do not provide any basic services such as electricity, gas, and water supply, and the residents have to rely on private providers, which further adds to their financial burden.
The problem of illegal societies has become so grave that it has caught the attention of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. The court has taken several suo moto notices and directed the relevant authorities to take action against these societies. The authorities have demolished several illegal structures and cancelled the registrations of many illegal housing schemes.
However, the problem persists, and new societies continue to emerge. The main reason for this is the nexus between the promoters of these societies and the government officials. The promoters bribe the officials to turn a blind eye to their illegal activities, and in return, they get protection from the law.
To tackle this problem, there needs to be a concerted effort from all stakeholders. The government needs to take strict action against the promoters of these societies and the officials who aid them. There also needs to be a public awareness campaign to educate people about the dangers of investing in these societies. The media can also play an important role in highlighting this issue and creating public pressure on the government to take action.
In conclusion, the problem of illegal societies in Sindh is a serious issue that needs to be tackled urgently. The government, the judiciary, the media, and the public all need to work together to put an end to this menace. Otherwise, it will continue to thrive, and the innocent people who invest their hard-earned money in these schemes will continue to suffer.
