PAC Seeks Details of Plots Given to High-Profile Individuals in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) met at the Parliament House to examine audit paras related to the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and the Ministry of National Food Security and Research.

During the meeting, the PAC expressed serious concerns over encroachments in the big markets of Islamabad and called for a uniform policy on the issue.

As per details, the committee also sought details from the Capital Development Authority (CDA) about plots given to parliamentarians, ministers, judges, and generals within its limits and their value at the time of allotment.

The PAC directed the Pakistan Housing Foundation to provide information about important personalities who have been given plots, their value at the time of allotment, and whether the full price was paid.

Besides, the committee also addressed Chairman CDA Noor Amin Mengal, expressing appreciation for his work, but raised concerns about the CDA staff encroaching on footpaths by taking money from people.

Moreover, the committee directed the CDA to start an operation against encroachments in elite areas and investigate the faulty construction of Margalla Road.

Furthermore, the PAC suggested a uniform policy on encroachments and directed that permission to install chairs should be given at specific times and not be free.

The committee also sought details from the Secretary of Maritime and Chairman Gwadar Port about solar panels provided by China for Gwadar.

In addition, the PAC recommended an inquiry against the contractor of Margalla Road for faulty construction.

The CDA chairman assured the committee that a committee had been formed on the matter and that licenses given in some areas could be abolished if the PAC gave the order.
