PAC Summons Chairman CDA Over Cracks in Newly Constructed Margalla Road

ISLAMABAD: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has summoned the chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA), Noorul Amin Mengal, to discuss the cracks that have developed in the newly constructed Margalla Road.

The PAC Chairman, Noor Alam Khan, has deemed this an urgent matter and has called for payments to the contractors, including the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) and the National Logistics Cell (NLC), to be stopped immediately.

The issue was raised after discussing the Ministry of Industries and Production audit report at the Parliament Building.

The Margalla Road has not been officially inaugurated but has been opened for traffic. However, cracks have developed on both sides of the road near the Shah Allah Ditta underpass, raising questions about the quality of construction work.

The CDA’s Member Engineering, Syed Munawar Shah, claims that the road is still incomplete and that cracks in newly built roads are routine.

The CDA is executing the project through the NLC, which is worth around Rs 3.9 billion and is supposed to be completed in six months.

Furthermore, Member of National Assembly (MNA) Wajiha Qamar has called for the chairman of CDA to explain the increase in encroachments across the federal capital, especially in markets.

The committee has also raised concerns about seating arrangements in front of restaurants being removed one day but being seen again on sidewalks and blocking public access areas a few days later.
