Pakistan Requests China to Incorporate Babusar Tunnel (N-5) Project In CPEC

The Government of Pakistan has decided to incorporate the Babusar Tunnel (N-5) into the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

During the forthcoming CPEC Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) meeting, the proposal for project inclusion would be presented to the Chinese side.

It will be a 13-kilometer-long tunnel connecting Kaghan Valley and Chilas to Gilgit Baltistan, making it an important route for the northern areas.

The National Highway Authority (NHA) is actively developing the tunnel, and a feasibility study has been completed.

Recently, Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif visited the area and directed that the project be completed as soon as possible, as it is critical for year-round connectivity between KP and GB.

Due to intense weather and heavy snowfall during the winter season, this route remains closed. But as this tunnel gets constructed, it will aid in resolving the blockage problems and will allow the locals and tourists to travel to their desired destinations.
