LAHORE: A consortium of Pakistani and Turkish companies is set to begin a survey of the two routes for the Rawalpindi Ring Road project starting on May 31.
The purpose of the survey is to evaluate and recommend one route out of the two alignments within a period of six weeks.
The selection committee, appointed by the Punjab government and led by the divisional commissioner, had chosen the joint venture of Turkish and Pakistani firms last week.
Dr. Habibul Haq Randhawa, Chief Engineer of the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA), confirmed that the firms were selected to provide third-party validation for the project.
The formal process is scheduled to commence on May 31, and all necessary maps, land information, and traffic data will be provided to the consultant within a day or two.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had instructed officials to engage a consultant for independent verification of the optimal route for the project.
Under the previous government, two routes were planned for the project. According to the 2020 plan’s previous alignment, the estimated cost of a 66.3-kilometer section of the road was Rs 64 billion.
