KARACHI: The inaugural route of Pakistan’s first electric bus service will be inaugurated in Karachi today, according to an announcement made by Sindh’s minister of information Sharjeel Memon.

As per the details, the Sindh government’s transportation division will launch Pakistan’s first electric bus service for residents of Karachi.

The minister said that the launch of the first electric bus route would run from Clifton Clock to Seaview Beach, adding that Karachi would soon see the introduction of the first batch of 50 electric, environmentally friendly buses.

Additionally, a solar power system was set up to power the buses and after a single charge, each bus would go 240 kilometers, he noted.

Memon said on Twitter that the Sindh government, which is run by the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), is constantly concerned with growth, progress, and prosperity.

He stated that the administration had opted to expedite the procurement procedure and had approved the acquisition of more buses.

The minister continued that additional bus lines were something that the people of Karachi wanted.

Memon had stated in November of last year that the Sindh government’s transportation division would begin a new bus service in Karachi.
