PCBDDA Set to Begin Construction on Major Road Connecting Lahore’s Business District

LAHORE: Preparations are underway by the Punjab Central Business District Development Authority (PCBDDA) to begin construction on a new major road that will connect Walton Road and Ferozepur Road through a flyover that crosses railway tracks.

According to sources, the road, which is 3.5km long and 300 feet wide, is expected to be completed within four months.

The PCBDDA CEO, Mr. Amin, has stated that this project is a unique part of Pakistan’s first business district project, the Central Business District (CBD).

The PCBDDA will be funding the project from its resources, and no funding from the provincial government or the parent department will be sought, he added.

After the completion of the boulevard, motorists seeking access to Walton Road and various phases of DHA will prefer using this new road, which will reduce the traffic burden on Ali Zeb Road and Ferozepur Road.

The CBD has been divided into two districts, the Quaid District and Bab District, both of which will have state-of-the-art infrastructure, roads, special pedestrian areas/walkways, residential and commercial areas, malls, shopping centers, parking areas, apartment buildings, and high-rises.

Besides, the Kalma Chowk Remodeling Project is one of the core components of the Lahore CBD project, which aims to provide easy access to the CBD at Walton, avoiding traffic in the vicinity.

The project’s first underpass is 285 meters long, and its second two-lane underpass, turning towards Ali Zeb Road from Centre Point, is 632 meters long, allowing light and heavy transport to pass through it.

The PCBDDA management opened the Centre Point underpass for traffic informally on Sunday, providing signal-free access to motorists.

The formal inauguration of the underpass will be done by the caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi soon.
