PHC Takes Action on Petition Against Road Encroachments

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court has taken action on a petition filed against encroachments on busy roads in the cantonment area.

According to sources, the notices have been issued to the provincial government, Peshawar Cantonment Board’s executive officer, and other officials, requiring their response.

The bench, consisting of Justice Mohammad Ibrahim Khan and Justice Shakeel Ahmad, ordered the respondents to address the issue of encroachments on government property, including roads.

Furthermore, the petitioner, Shaukatullah Shah, also requested that the court declare the car parking on government property, particularly on Fakhre Alam Road, Kalabari Road, and Saddar Road in Peshawar Cantonment, illegal.

The petitioner’s counsel, Bashir Khan Wazir, highlighted those shopkeepers who had encroached on government property without any intervention from authorities.

He further mentioned that his client had personally approached the shopkeepers to remove the encroachments but faced threats in response.

Wazir emphasized that the encroachments were causing inconvenience to residents, motorists, and pedestrians in the area.

He stressed that the cantonment board is responsible for addressing the issue, removing the encroachments, and imposing fines on the violators.

Besides, the lawyer pointed out that even rent-a-car companies had occupied roads and parking spaces for their vehicles, disregarding the law.
