SOHBATPUR: Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called on the global community to support the rebuilding and rehabilitation of flood-stricken Pakistan at an international conference scheduled for January 9 in Geneva.
Sharif appealed to a public gathering in Pakistan after inaugurating the reconstructed Government Boys Secondary School in Kili Jia Khan.
The prime minister said he had been in contact with the leaders of Turkey, the UAE, Qatar, and Malaysia to invite them to the conference.
Sharif will co-chair the conference with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
The government has already distributed PKR 100 billion ($636 million) among flood-affected people through the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP), and a number of countries have granted aid to the flood affectees.
Still, more funds are needed to compensate for the destruction of one million homes and aid in rehabilitating other flood victims.
