PM Shehbaz Orders Inquiry Against CDA Over Nilore Heights Housing Project

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed an inquiry into the Capital Development Authority (CDA) for launching the Nilore Heights project for overseas Pakistanis without addressing the existing issues.

The housing scheme, launched in collaboration with the Naya Pakistan Housing Development Authority (NPHDA) in 2021, aimed to provide apartments to both overseas Pakistanis and lower-income segments of society.

However, a case filed in the Islamabad High Court challenging the CDA’s plan to sell flats exclusively to overseas Pakistanis led to the postponement of the balloting scheduled for May 16.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed disappointment over the CDA’s failure to resolve the issues before launching the project and ordered an inquiry into the matter.

Additionally, he also instructed his aide Ahad Cheema to form an inquiry committee to investigate the situation.

It is relevant to note that the housing project received significant interest from overseas Pakistanis, with around 7,000 applications submitted for the initial 2,000 apartments in the first phase.

The CDA had planned to sell 2,000 apartments in the first phase, and an additional 2,400 apartments were scheduled for sale in the upcoming second phase.

The project, initially named the ‘Farash Town’ apartment scheme, was later renamed Nilore Heights.

Besides, the CDA had also sought to dissociate the NPHDA from the project as it had not shared the project’s cost with the authority.
