Property Dispute Gets Senior Lawyer Wounded in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: A senior lawyer of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) was wounded on Wednesday after his nephew opened fire on him at his office over a property dispute.

The details show that Razaullah Khan Advocate was attacked inside his office on Tipu Sultan Road who was then shifted to Lady Reading Hospital for first aid.

According to a police official, there appears to have been a property dispute that led to the attack, and the lawyer who was hurt named his nephew Jabir as a suspect in the FIR.

He claimed that an FIR had been filed by the West Cantonment police under PPC Section 324 (attempted murder), however, the suspect was currently evading capture and being sought by the police.

In a statement, the KP Bar Council denounced the assault on its senior member and noted that the lawyer had previously faced such attacks as well.

The statement, which quoted the bar’s vice-chairman, said that the issues had been brought up with the police on several occasions, including the provincial police head, but security wasn’t given to him.

The bar also declared a province-wide strike in protest of the attack on the senior attorney who is a member of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council, leader of the Malagri Wakeelan, a group linked with the Awami National Party, and also held the office of president of the Peshawar District Bar Association.

Furthermore, Peshawar High Court Bar Association also issued a statement denouncing the assault on the lawyer and urged law enforcement bodies to apprehend the attacker to prevent similar situations in the future.
