Property Tax Notices Sent to CM House Sindh, othe Exempt Institutions

KARACHI: The district municipal corporation (DMC) South delivered a property tax notification to the Chief Minister House for Rs15,770,757.

Institutions that are exempt from the aforementioned tax have also received property tax letters from the district municipal corporation (DMC) South.

In addition to the CM House, numerous significant federal and provincial buildings, including the National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA), General Post Office, Urdu Dictionary Board, and Chief Secretary House, got property tax warnings.

According to sources, all federal and provincial buildings, however, are free from all taxes under the Sindh Urban Immovable Property Tax Act of 1958.

Additionally, this tax does not apply to historical structures, places of worship, government-run schools, residential homes with up to 120 yards, and residential apartments with up to 600 square feet.

Besides, the District Municipal Corporations under the Sindh Local Government Department have also recently received permission from the Sindh Government to collect property tax from the Excise Department.

The sources informed that this year, property tax challans have been delivered to both government-owned houses and exempt estates in Karachi.

Additionally, the houses in slums all around the city, including Korangi, Orangi, and Malir, have also received property tax warnings even though this tax does not apply to them.

These communities’ residents are extremely alarmed and concerned about this new tax challan, sources added.

On the other hand, sources from the chief minister’s residence acknowledged their ignorance of the property tax challan and questioned how the government agencies could deliver it to the chief minister’s residence, which is exempt from paying property taxes.
