ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Interior has proposed to the National Highway Authority (NHA) to build an interchange or link road from the motorway to the Model Prison site at H-16 Islamabad.
Several meetings have also been held in the Ministry of Interior to discuss the viable option for providing access to Model Prison from the link road of motorway M-1/M-2.
The proposals include the construction of a flyover or low-cost access to Model Prison from the Srinagar Highway.
The proposed interchange will also benefit the citizens of Islamabad’s sector I-16, I-15, and residents of PHA flats I-16/3.
The Secretary of the Interior Ministry has formed a committee to visit the Model Prison site and assess their options for access to the Model Prison Islamabad from the Srinagar Highway/Motorway.
As per details, work on the prison in Sector H-16 Islamabad is currently underway and is expected to be completed soon.
The proposal will help alleviate the burden on the district administration and capital police who transport prisoners from Rawalpindi for court hearings.
It is to note here that Model Prison is a joint project of the ICT administration and the Ministry of Interior, while the PM in this regard also took notice of the slow development, ordering to expedite its completion at the earliest.
