KARACHI: Just days after the closure of his restaurant in Saddar by the Sindh Food Authority due to sanitation issues and serving substandard food, the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) carried out the demolition of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader and MPA Khurram Sher Zaman’s second eatery in Bahadurabad, declaring it an illegal structure.
The demolition process began swiftly with heavy machinery and a team of laborers, accompanied by the local police, without facing any opposition.
An official from the SBCA stated that the structure had been under scrutiny for several years, and Zaman was summoned to explain his position.
“After failing to justify operating a commercial establishment on a residential plot, Zaman was instructed to close the restaurant. However, he defied the authority’s order and continued the illegal business. After fulfilling all necessary procedures and issuing several notices, the SBCA demolished the restaurant,” the official explained.
Zaman has labeled the SBCA’s action as part of a political vendetta by the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) against the PTI.
“Political victimization is at its peak in the province of Sindh by the Pakistan People’s Party. First, they sealed my Saddar branch through the Sindh Food Authority, and now they are demolishing the other one through the Sindh Building Control Authority,” Zaman tweeted, sharing pictures and videos of the SBCA’s demolition operation.
