RAWALPINDI: The Punjab government has suspended funding for ongoing development schemes and new projects in all districts, including Rawalpindi, due to instructions from the Election Commission of Pakistan.
However, funds will be released for three long-delayed mega projects in Rawalpindi.
The Planning and Development Department has requested recommendations from the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) for the release of funds for the third-party validation of the Ring Road project, and the redesigning and expansion of the Katchehri Chowk and Defence Chowk Underpasses.
The Rawalpindi Ring Road project, awarded to the Frontier Works Organisation for PKR 22.8 billion, will undergo third-party validation before proceeding.
The RDA will send its recommendation for the release of funds for the underpasses project and the Defense Chowk remodeling and expansion project, with the latter being partially funded by the National Highway Authority (NHA).
