LAHORE: The Punjab government is modernizing its land management system by introducing digital certificates instead of the Khasra numbers or manual records for registering properties.
The new initiative, the Punjab Urban Land System Enhancement Project, will create a digital repository of land ownership records using a Geographic Information System (GIS).
The project, which has received $150 million in funding from the World Bank, will be piloted in Jalalpur Jattan before being rolled out throughout the province.
The digital certificates will allow people to access information about urban property ownership at record centers throughout Punjab, including viewing land on Google Maps.
The government is also working to streamline the urban land management process by reducing the influence of the patwari system to make it more efficient and transparent.
