Punjab Government to Hire Consultants for Rawalpindi Ring Road Project

RAWALPINDI: The Punjab government would hire consultants to verify the best routes for the Rawalpindi Ring Road (RRR) and construct an economic corridor along it.

The choice was made during a meeting of the Consultant Selection Committee (CSC) for large-scale projects, which was presided over by Rawalpindi Commissioner Noorul Amin Mengal.

The committee determined that since the consultation for the two-phase project is anticipated to take 150 days, a company for the project’s viability will be chosen within the following 45 days.

The following duties will be handled by the consulting firms:

  • The hired firm would divide the project into two phases: Phase-I would decide the optimal route for the economic corridor and be finished in 60 days, whereas, Phase-II would offer thorough planning for land use along the third-party verified alignment of the Ring Road and be finished in 90 days.
  • The overall project budget is PKR 90 million, with PKR 30 million set aside for the first phase and PKR 60 million for the second.
  • The chosen route will help make the twin cities easier to access and more connected.

Project Concept 1 (PC 1) states that the proposed route will include economic zone characteristics such as planned industrial units, educational and healthcare zones, recreational areas, central business districts, theme parks, high-rise building zones, relocation and establishment of commercial markets, and bus and truck terminals.

Moreover, it is important to note that the government has chosen five important projects for foreign investment in the wake of Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif’s trip to the United Arab Emirates.

The Phase-I oil import terminal at Parco coastal refinery, the Kharian-Rawalpindi Motorway, the Rawalpindi Ring Road, the Karachi Circular Railway, and the Thar Block-II railway network link are among these projects.
