Punjab Govt to Digitize Urban Land Records in Collaboration with World Bank

LAHORE: The Punjab government, in partnership with the World Bank, has launched an initiative to digitize urban land records in the province.

According to sources, the Punjab Urban Land System Enhancement Project (PULSE) aims to modernize the outdated land records system by providing easy access to comprehensive land information with just a click.

The Punjab Board of Revenue, in collaboration with the World Bank, has already completed over 90 percent of the digitization of rural land records in the province.

Now, the focus has shifted to digitizing the urban land records.

This involves conducting GIS mapping of all lands in Punjab and preparing computerized certified maps.

To discuss the project and its implementation, PULSE organized a consultative workshop chaired by PLRA DG Saira Umar.

The workshop was attended by Project Director Asim Saleem, Project Coordinator Faizan-ul-Hasan, relevant government departments, development authorities, leading real estate developers, and NGOs.

During the workshop, Project Director Asim Saleem highlighted that the digitization project would eradicate fraud in land transactions and reduce land-related litigation.

The pilot project has already commenced, and efforts are underway to fully computerize land records and maps.

Addressing the workshop, PLRA DG Saira Umar emphasized that the land records in most urban areas across the province lack uniformity and certification.

Besides, various public and private institutions are independently compiling land records, leading to discrepancies and inefficiencies.
