LAHORE: The Punjab Planning and Development Department has declined to release funds for a water tank project in the city due to its rising cost.
The project aimed to construct underground tanks at various locations in Lahore to prevent citizens from incurring losses during the rainy season and maintain the groundwater level.
As per the details, the project had initially planned to build underground tanks at 12 locations, but only two tanks were built due to a lack of funds.
WASA, which initiated the project, has now reduced the number of proposed underground tanks from 12 to 8 due to insufficient funds.
The project cost was initially estimated at Rs1.71 billion, but now it would cost approximately Rs700 million.
It is important to note that the underground water storage project is the first of its kind in the country.
WASA will refer the matter to the planning and development department for the next financial year.
