ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has consulted French consultants to improve the water management mechanism in the capital.
The civic body’s officials have briefed the consultants about the complete details and how the authorities have been facing challenges that have been preventing them from developing new residential sectors.
The officials have sought technical assistance on how improvements can be made to the overall service delivery and wastewater management with international practices.
Additionally, Islamabad is facing extreme water shortage problems with its increasing population.
It is important to note that the main source of water for Islamabad is the reservoirs at Khanpur and Simply, and some tube wells.
An official shared that the concerns that were raised before the consultants include saving clean drinking water, recycling wastewater, conserving water, and, most importantly, improving the water distribution infrastructure and sewerage system.
He said that the availability of water is not only necessary for the existing areas but is also essential for upcoming sectors that are to be planned.
He also added that an improved water management mechanism would aid in coping with the challenges related to the increasing demand for water due to the increasing population.
