Quetta Metropolitan Corporation’s Neglect Leads to Financial Crisis

QUETTA: The Quetta Metropolitan Corporation (QMC) has neglected to renew lease agreements for its properties, including parking lots, four years after their expiration.

This has resulted in a lack of income for the department, as the parking plaza on Circular Road, which was completed at a cost of billions of rupees, is not generating any revenue.

According to the details, the source of income from Liaquat and other parks has also been blocked for the past 4 years due to incompetence and corruption.

Additionally, motorcycle and bicycle stands have also not been auctioned in the city, resulting in a significant loss for the national treasury.

The sources stated that the employees of the Local Government Department in Balochistan have not received salaries for the past three months due to a persistent decrease in revenue generation and rampant corruption.

Furthermore, the president of the All Balochistan Municipal Workers Association, Quetta, Muhammad Rahim Baloch, attributes this to a misuse of resources and corrupt practices.

Besides, the wastage of revenue has exacerbated financial problems for the province, and if the corruption is not eliminated and money is not collected immediately, the government will be unable to pay its employees, said the president.

Baloch has urged the relevant authorities to investigate the corruption in the department and hold those responsible accountable for the embezzlement of billions of rupees.

He has also demanded that the local government’s assets be rented out to generate revenue and pay the employees’ salaries, adding that the acute financial crisis the corporation is facing is the reason why cleanliness drives have been stopped.
