RAWALPINDI: The local administration of Rawalpindi has finalized plans for a strong crackdown on the encroachment mafia. The crackdown shall be carried out under the direction of Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Liaquat Ali Chattha.
The crackdown has been planned in an effort to eliminate encroachments and improve traffic flow in the city.
In this regard, a meeting was chaired by Commissioner Rawalpindi Division and RPO, attended by the Deputy Commissioner, DG (RDA), CPO, Traffic Police Officers, officers of other departments, and business leaders.
President Anjuman Traders Shahid Ghafoor Pracha and Sharjeel Mir were also in attendance.
During the meeting, Commissioner Chatha stated that the plan was to turn Murree Road from Faizabad to Mareer Chowk into an encroachment-free model city.
Encroachments will be removed from Committee Chowk, Fawara Chowk, Iqbal Road, Raja Bazar, and Dingi Khoi in the first phase of the crackdown.
It has been instructed that pushcarts will be allowed to stay at Ghala Mandi and City Sadar Road from 8 am to 11 am.
Moreover, the Commissioner warned that strict action would be taken against anyone who set up a stall in front of their shop.
He also announced that a master plan has been finalized to start a crackdown against the encroachment mafia in a couple of days, and a crackdown would be conducted against minors driving rickshaws.
To improve parking facilities, barbed wire will be installed in the city.
In addition to these measures, CCTV cameras will be installed to monitor the flow of traffic, and a complaint cell will be set up in the office of the Chief Traffic Officer with a WhatsApp number through which complaints can be redressed.
Traffic officials will also be shifted from time to time to improve the flow of traffic.
However, sources from the Municipal Corporation Rawalpindi (MCR) informed The News that some ‘corrupt officers’ of the regulation department had informed the encroachment mafia about the crackdown.
These have advised the encroachment mafia to stage protest demonstrations to stop this crackdown, they informed.
The MCR has displayed banners and placards everywhere, warning the encroachment mafia to remove their encroachments immediately or face strict action.
The actions taken by the corporation to eliminate the encroachments are commendable, and a comprehensive plan will be implemented to eliminate encroachments, the Commissioner said.
Additionally, the Commissioner assured the business community that with their cooperation, the eradication of encroachments would be completed soon.
In addition, Eagle Squad and Dolphin have been mobilized to control street crime.

Authories are not working on regular basis otherwise who will think about encroachment, shopkeepers are keeping products on foot paths,and trolley are perked at roadside. Baldia or Municipality personnel’s are charging monthly fees to them this is a big reason encroachment is there.

The commercial area encroachment issue needs to be sorted out on a priority basis push carts, stalls out side shop should be delt with. Being a resident of the area I have witnessed numerous incidents of violent behavior on part of this mafia and their goons on parking related matters
