Rawalpindi Ring Road Project Stalled Due to Missing Land Records

RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Ring Road project has encountered another obstacle. The land records for a village in tehsil Gujar Khan, which were essential for the project’s acquisition, have reportedly disappeared.

A senior district administration official revealed that the land record for a village adjacent to tehsil Rawalpindi is missing, complicating the land acquisition process for the Ring Road.

This issue might be traced back to 2002 when a fire in the record room potentially destroyed some documents. However, three assistant commissioners are now reviewing the records with land revenue officials.

Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chatha denied the claims of missing records, stating that some parcels were previously acquired while land acquisition hadn’t begun.

The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) and the district land revenue department have initiated a survey of the area. The RDA is currently seeking guidance on land pricing from the district administration. Initial surveys indicate that 36 villages will be affected by the project, with eight located in Gujar Khan and the rest in Rawalpindi tehsil.

The project, spanning 38.3 km, is estimated to cost Rs33.7 billion, with Rs27 billion allocated for construction and Rs6.7 billion for land acquisition.
