Rawalpindi to Introduce Uniform Building Bylaws in All Tehsils

RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi’s district administration has initiated work on formulating uniform building bylaws in all tehsils.

According to sources, this move is made due to haphazard construction being witnessed in urban areas caused by different bylaws in tehsils.

Furthermore, the district administration has asked assistant commissioners and officials to provide their suggestions for uniform building bylaws.

Meanwhile, a senior official of the district administration said that each area’s geographic requirements should be kept in mind while formulating the new bylaws.

He added that commercial activities had increased in urban areas, but the laws were outdated.

The district administration sent samples of new building bylaws to the Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation, district council, and tehsil administrations through WhatsApp messages on May 5, requesting their suggestions as soon as possible.

In 2019, Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation adopted new building bylaws, which fixed the parking area of commercial plazas and enhanced the height of commercial buildings.

However, the district council and tehsils had different laws, which did not require builders to allocate parking areas, fire safety, and earthquake-proof structures.

The district administration official added they wanted to generate revenue through commercialization fees, for which new building bylaws were being formulated.

District Council Chief Officer Fazle Akram said that the district council had started working on new building bylaws and would finalize them soon.

Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation officials stated that they had adopted new building bylaws, and other departments and civic agencies would make their new building bylaws.

  3. Every commercial building must provide parking space for equal number of occupants. Too much chicken coop buildings. 2 trees and 20 feet side walk to be made mandatory.
